CLEVELAND STATE UNIVERSITY When a new space is design, architects have to think about the circulation flow in that space. In case of designing a parking lot, the circulation flow is much easier to control because it will be always the same; but, in case of a university, a house or a shopping mall, the circulation that pedestrians will have is a lot harder to control and to create. In this text, the types of circulation (vertical and horizontal) of the Cleveland State University Student Center and its surroundings will be described.
On the vertical circulation can be observed that the buildings have several modules that allow the interaction and movement vertically through the floors. This University Student Center has three levels: The first level provides street level access to the atrium floor, bookstore, pub, and cyber lounge as well as to the ramp circulation that leads to a redesigned outdoor square; the second level contains the primary dining and food court areas and also a convenience store and student senate office suite. This level also provides direct access to the campus wide interior walkway system; on the third level are located a conference center, prefunction spaces and the student life administration and student office suite that includes interconnected lounge and conference rooms. On that level is also an outdoor terrace fronting Euclid Avenue.

The horizontal circulation at this student center at Cleveland State University will be a lot harder to describe because this building will enhance its campus image and will create an open connection with the city and the public spaces at its surroundings. This type of circulation gives a major character to the building and frequently determinates the basic shape of the entire structure, which, in this case, responds to a several factors on its surrounding, such as the street, the traffic, the pedestrian and squares. The interior space is dynamic thanks to the different highs of the circulation and the views which connect the building with the exterior.
The Cleveland State University provides a wonderful flow, not only in its interior but also from outside, because it have a great relationship with the context and with the pedestrian where we can find beautiful access an entrances to the building and to the parks and squares from the outside. Also, it seems to be very comfortable and nice to visit and for tours.
